Hey, I’m Bigu.
Photographer. Cinematographer. Director. Painter. I never really fit into just one box and honestly, I stopped trying a long time ago.
My story starts the way most creative stories do: with a restless need to express something. For a while I thought that something was going to come out through music. I spent years writing songs, playing guitar, chasing that feeling you get when a lyric finally lands. It was real. It was mine. But life kept expanding; new places, new faces, new challenges, and somewhere along the way I picked up a camera, and everything changed. Traveling, working with incredible people, experiencing life from the inside out; that’s what brought me to this point and I wouldn’t trade a single detour.
I’ve had the privilege of working across industries and borders. From luxury hospitality in Playa del Carmen to music videos to live event production to building a studio of my own here in the Sonoran desert. Over 12 years behind the lens as a Director of Photography, and I still feel like I’m just getting started.
I love exploring stories. Through a camera, through a video frame, and yes even through a paintbrush. My painting practice under the name Billibigu is where I get to go completely off-script. Large format, acrylic, spray paint, raw energy. No client brief. Just me, the canvas, and my Australian Shepherd Buzz giving me his unfiltered criticism from the corner of the studio.
When I’m not creating, I’m probably riding my bike, making a second cup of coffee, or walking Buzz through the neighborhood, thinking about the next project. Life is the inspiration. Always.
Lumen 1618 is the studio I built to hold all of it. The photography, the film work, the art. Named after the golden ratio, φ = 1.618, because beauty isn’t random. It follows a pattern and I’ve spent my whole life trying to find that pattern in the stories around me.
I hope you find something here that connects with you, and if it feels like we might be speaking the same visual language, let’s make something together.
